wakAniu
★ Come and see the school in action — classrooms buzzing, pitches roaring, one big family.
Three ways we spend a day at wakAniu
Speak
Every child gets a stage — recitation, drama, assemblies and the Friday talent slot where quiet voices become confident ones.
Think
Reading, writing, maths and science taught around an open fire of questions — because a curious child is a powerful child.
Move
Football, netball, athletics and free play — organised fun with friends, refereed by the biggest kids and cheered by everyone.
Not one size. Every child.
wakAniu is a co-educational school that celebrates childhood in all its colours. We keep classes small, the day full and every child known by name.
One big journey, in small steps.
- 01Every child is someone
- 02Read every single day
- 03Play hard, play fair
- 04Ask why, then ask again
- 05Make things, make noise, make friends
- 06Lead with a kind heart
A school that adds up.
A letter to the school.
Every child gets a stage. Some take the spotlight today, some tomorrow, but no one sits in the dark at wakAniu.
What class would your child be in?
★ Nursery (3-year-olds) join PP1 when they turn four — ask us anything when you visit.
A staff who know your child's name.
Learn. Play. Lead.
A place to grow, together.
wakAniu is a co-educational primary school built around a simple belief — that happy children learn, and that learning should feel like play and grand discovery. Our days move to a rhythm that lets every child find their voice and their friends.
Daily rhythm
Morning circle, lessons that spark, the golden lunch hour, and the afternoon stage where anything can happen.
Real food, real play
Warm meals and free play — the kitchen on lime, the fields gold. Childhood nutrition as a serious job.
Golden rules
Be kind. Ask why. Try again. Three rules that cover every classroom, corridor and field.
You are greeted at wakAniu before you reach the door. Morning greeting is a ceremony — big voices, bright eyes, and the head teacher at the gate with oranges and chapatis.
Three beats to the heart.
Think boldly
A curriculum dense with challenge — reading for meaning by Grade 2, multiplication as a game, science as a daily wonder.
Play hard
Daily games, teams, tournaments and free play. Sport taught by heart and rubber ball, with every child on the pitch weekly.
Lead kindly
From Prefect Teams to club leaders, every child practices leadership early — through kindness, responsibility and a loud brave voice.
A picture of delight.
The whole crew.

A rich, layered core curriculum.
Every morning begins in the same posture — leaning in. Lessons are short, loud and interactive. Then we head outside to make it real: measuring the netball pitch, growing a seed, staging the story we just read.
Five rooms, one school.
The reading room
Children read every single day at wakAniu — aloud to a friend, silently to themselves, or in a buzzing circle where everyone guesses the next chapter.
- Daily independent reading time
- Reading buddies across grades
- Bedtime-story borrowing from the library
- Book-week performances on stage
The writing room
Every child here is a writer. We begin with squiggles and move to stories that are read to the whole school on Friday.
- Handwriting with pride
- Weekly story-share assemblies
- Letters to family, real and stamped
- A published school magazine
The maths room
Numbers are physical at wakAniu — out on the pitch, up the stairs, splitting chapatis into fractions for lunch.
- Times tables through games, not drills
- Maths trails around the school
- Real-money shop maths
- Captains of calculation badges
The science room
Seeds become trees, questions become experiments, and the school garden is our biggest laboratory.
- Kitchen-garden experiments
- Weather station on the roof
- Termly family science fairs
- Observation journals from PP1
The life skills room
Kindness is a subject too. Circle time teaches us that big feelings are okay and that we solve problems together.
- Weekly circle time
- Conflict-turned-conversation practice
- Money, manners and responsibility
- Public speaking from day one
Children don't take a test. They step onto a stage.
Progress is shared as a story — what your child read, built, argued and led this month — not a single mark on a cold morning.
We don't do PE lessons. We have games.
Sport at wakAniu is not an afterthought — it is the calendar. Each week the whole school moves through a schedule of football, netball, athletics and chess, with games refereed by older pupils and cheered by everyone.
| Day | Game | The spirit |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Football | Teams vs teams, full roar |
| Tuesday | Netball | Pass, pivot, shout a name |
| Wednesday | Athletics | Sprints, relays and the long jump |
| Thursday | Chess | Silent killer strategy club |
| Friday | Free play | Run wild — supervised chaos |
Four banners to cheer for.
Football FC
Two teams from Grade 3 up, training on the back field with borrowed boots and borrowed heart. The derby against the staff is a termly legend.
Netball Club
The tallest and the smallest play together — netball at wakAniu is a masterclass in teamwork, with the loudest cheerleaders in the district.
Athletics Squad
Sprints, relays and the long jump run at breaktimes. Every child runs at least once a term, and house colours keep it fierce and friendly.
Chess Board Club
Silent, deadly and very proud. Our chess board is respected game-over-a-board and we'd love to say we always win with grace.
Messy, loud, loved.
